Management of Sick Leaves among Federal Civil Servants

general assembly on May 02, 2013

In June 2006, the Council of Ministers decided to reform the control policy on sickness-related absenteeism in the federal administration. This reform aimed at obtaining reliable figures, intensifying controls and including sick leaves in a HRM policy. The Court of Audit concludes in its report that the control system established by the federal public service for Health (Medex) meets expectations. However, public employers have to improve their organization so as to guarantee that sick leaves are timely reported. Besides, there is no automatic follow-up of sick leaves. As checking only has a limited direct impact, the Court of Audit also recommends that control rates be reexamined periodically.
